IRONMAN 70.3 California Oceanside

The IRONMAN 70.3 California Oceanside takes place this Saturday, March 29th in Oceanside, California. This Ironman in particular offers triathletes a surreal experience as they are able to race through the city that actually created and birthed the Ironman sport back in the 1970’s. The Ironman 70.3 is different from the standard IRONMAN as the athletes only have to go half the distance in each portion of the race, but, nonetheless, are still racing an impressive 70.3 miles in total – swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles and running a half marathon or 13.1 miles.

The IRONMAN 70.3 California Oceanside has athletes swimming through the Oceanside Harbor, biking from San Clemente through the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton (which has numerous hills) down to the Oceanside pier, and finally running back along the Oceanside “Strand”. The average 70.3 IRONMAN finisher will complete the race at around 6 hours and 30 minutes and burn anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 calories. Those with the best times may qualify to be in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship which takes place this year in Canada. There are only 50 slots available so we know this Ironman 70.3 is going to be an exciting and competitive race.

Here at LifeProof we are proud sponsors of the event as we know how much hard work and dedication these athletes put into their training and that their phones are with them every mile along the way. You can stop by and talk to us at the expo this Thursday and Friday; we will have a booth at the Oceanside Pier on Thursday 11am-7pm and Friday 10am – 6pm.
