Healthy Eating Habits Tips

Eating healthy isn’t just a choice but a lifestyle. People who eat healthier throughout the day are suggested to have more energy and feel better about themselves in their daily lives. Here are a few tips to help you maintain healthy eating habits and to be a healthier version of you.

Drink Plenty of Fluids

First and foremost, healthy eating starts with healthy drinking: make sure you are drinking enough water. Drink a full glass of water before eating a meal; this will prevent you from overeating as the water will make you feel fuller quicker. Know that you should be drinking at least half your body-weight in ounces of water everyday but, don’t exceed more than a gallon a day as you can make yourself sick from drinking too much water. And when we talk about water – we mean plain water. Yes, we know coffee, tea, soft drinks and other beverages are made with water…but, we are sorry to say that this doesn’t count.

Eat Breakfast

Next, don’t skip the most important meal of the day: breakfast. If you are like many others, skipping breakfast may cause you to overeat for the remainder of the day. You don’t need to eat a big hearty breakfast either–it can be something as simple as yogurt or fruit and granola. It’s also best to start your day with some protein which will make you feel fuller longer, which curbs unnecessary snacking.

Eat More Frequently and Smaller Portions

True for breakfast but all other meals as well, make sure what you’re eating is a proper portion. Smaller portions are what help you maintain and lose weight. Eating four to five small meals a day, rather than two or three larger means, keep your metabolism working harder and longer. Also, by eating smaller meals a day, it prevents you from eating supersize fries and drinking tubs of soda.

Enjoy Healthy Snacks

Speaking of soda, your snacks, drinks and meals should consist of healthier, ideally whole foods. Don’t tempt yourself with chips and crackers and candy in your cupboard. If you don’t have these snacks in your pantry you are way less likely to eat them. But, you should know that if you crave it, you should taste it. Don’t deprive yourself of whatever you are craving – just take a small taste. If you deny your cravings you are setting yourself up from failure. Instead of eating an entire chocolate bar – how about you only have a bite or two. The bad foods that you love should be treated like treats–small rewards for keeping your healthy eating habits on track.

Eating healthy and hydrating properly is part of having a healthy lifestyle, but make sure to complete that healthy lifestyle by adding in lots of exercise.
